By car, it takes about 1.5 to 2 hours via the Don Valley Parkway (ON-404) north to ON-401 East, then follow ON-115 North and exit at Parkhill Road West, following signs to the Peterborough Lift Lock. 

By bus, the journey takes around 2.5 to 3 hours, with several bus companies offering services—book tickets in advance and take a taxi or local transit from the Peterborough bus terminal to the Lift Lock. 

Alternatively, Via Rail offers train services to Cobourg, from where you can take a taxi or bus to Peterborough, providing a scenic but longer route.

Best Time to Visit

The best time to visit the Peterborough Lift Lock is from May to October when the weather is pleasant, and the Lift Lock is fully operational with boat tours and activities. For fewer crowds, consider visiting in early June or September.

Start your day at the Peterborough Lift Lock, the world’s highest hydraulic lift lock at 19.8 meters. Visit the Visitor Center for exhibits on its history and construction, including a scale model.
